Start Procedure

The start of the 48th Vogalonga is scheduled for 9:00 am, marked by the traditional cannon shot. Boats must gather in the Giudecca Canal from 8:30 am, following the instructions of the Technical Commissioners for correct positioning.

Route

The race follows a defined route that touches iconic points such as the San Marco Basin, the canals of Murano, and the Rio di Cannaregio, culminating with the arrival in the Grand Canal, near Rialto up to the Punta della Salute.

Arrival

The finish is located at the end of the Grand Canal, in front of the Basilica della Salute. Here, medals and certificates of participation will be distributed. After the awards, the boats are required to promptly clear the area to not hinder the arrival of other participants.

Race Numbers

Race numbers, given at the time of registration, must be displayed on bibs worn visibly, facilitating checks along the route and identification at the finish.

Recognition

Since Vogalonga is a non-competitive event, no ranking will be compiled. All those who reach the finish line will be awarded a diploma and a commemorative medal. Additional prizes provided by public sponsors will also be drawn among participants who have completed the course.

Rules and Controls

Crews must avoid crossing the paths of other boats, preventing the overlap of oars and any other actions that may cause harm to participants. Moreover, it is strictly prohibited for boats to deviate from the established route, which is conveniently indicated by the signs placed by the Organizing Committee. Control points will be established along the route at Burano and in Rio di Cannaregio. Participants must comply with the restrictions imposed by the current rules regarding the number of crew members and spacing between rowers. The responsibility for compliance with the rules rests with the crew leader.

Behavior and Measures

The moral and sports conduct of participants is subject to verification and the unquestionable judgment of the Organizing Committee from the moment of submission of the registration applications, and sanctions will be applied in case of behavior deemed incorrect. Crews and boats displaying advertising signs and insignias will also be excluded from the prize draw. English rowing boats are required to equip themselves with suitable means (paddles) to maneuver the boat in narrow passages.

The Organizing Committee disclaims any responsibility for accidents that may occur to participants or that may be caused by them to people or property during the event. Crews and boats can rely on assistance services during the event until 3:00 pm. The Organizing Committee reserves the right to make any changes to these regulations, should unforeseeable needs arise. THE ROUTE

The start occurs amid the splendor of the San Marco Basin. Skirting the island of Sant'Elena, it proceeds along the mosaic of islands: Vignole, the garden of Sant'Erasmo, and the quiet San Francesco del Deserto. Soon after, Burano appears with its lively houses, followed by the peaceful Mazzorbo and the monastic island of San Giacomo in Paludo. The regatta continues towards Murano, the sovereign realm of glass, navigating its Grand Canal. The finale winds through the Cannaregio canal and takes place in the Grand Canal, culminating in the historic arrival at Punta della Dogana, in front of the magnificent backdrop of Piazza San Marco.
